Rodrigo Salido Moulinié, Ph.D.
I am a Postdoctoral Fellow at the Institute for Historical Studies at The University of Texas at Austin. My work explores the interconnections between the histories of photography, science, and anthropology. I trace the tensions between the making of ethnography and the development of new visual methods of representing otherness—photography, painting, sketching, and writing.
A Fulbright-García Robles Scholarship, a Contex Doctoral Fellowship, and the Leonard A. Lauder Fellowship in Modern Art at The Metropolitan Museum have supported my research. My current book project, tentatively titled Coffee-Table Propaganda: Miguel Covarrubias and the Global Ethnographic Imagination, charts the intellectual and artistic itineraries of the Mexican artist through his caricatures, writings, and illustrated books.
